24 hours, seven artists at Artown's Mural Marathon
A 24 hour mural marathon starts at 10 a.m. July 15 on the streets of Reno out side Circus Circus.
In conjunction with Artown and with support from the Regional Alliance for Downtown, Circus Circus announces the artists chosen by the Selection Committee to compete this year.
Based on application and mural concept, the Committee chose the following to paint: Jenn Ponci of Sacramento, California; Joe C. Rock of Reno, Nevada; Michael Lucido of Reno, Nevada; Mike Ritch of San Francisco, California; Ryan “ARCY” Christenson of Wallingford, Connecticut; Raphael Blanco of Quincy, California; and Seth McCorkle of Reno, Nevada. There are also two alternates, Pan Pantoja of Reno, Nevada and Philip Lanzino of Dayton, Nevada.
24 hours, one winner
Each artist will receive a stipend of $750 for materials and is responsible for his or her own equipment and labor. The competition will begin at 10 a.m. July 15 and each mural must be completed by 10 a.m. July 16. There are cash prizes for first ($2,000), second ($1,000) and third place ($500). The Red Bull MTX DJ truck will be there as well as food vendors.
