Wildlife sanctuary hosts afternoon gala and more
Animal Ark, a wildlife sanctuary, inspires environmental stewardship through wildlife education. The Ark is a nonprofit which houses animals that cannot be released back into the wild. Throughout the season, the organization hosts a series of events where visitors can explore, discover and learn.
On the Wind Cheetah Run
When: 5 p.m. Sept. 11
About: Enjoy balloons as they grace the skyline at dawn, then watch the cheetahs race into the sunset. See the world’s fastest land animal in action as the cheetahs run at top speeds – completely off leash – around the Ark’s cheetah field. Admire their acceleration from 0 to 45 mph in only 3 seconds.
Paws & Claws Gala
When: 1:30 - 6 p.m. Sept. 25
About: The Paws & Claws Gala is an afternoon featuring food and drinks, a cheetah run, live and silent auctions, door-prizes, raffles, wildlife specialists discussing various species and live music. All proceeds benefit Animal Ark programs. Tickets are $125 per person, $1,150 for a table of 10 and $200 for a VIP ticket which includes a personal raptor encounter.
From Reno, take U.S. 395 north, turn right on Red Rock Road, go 11.5 miles, then take a right onto Deerlodge Road and then into the driveway at 1265 Deerlodge Road.
