A.V.A.'s 'Vortex' is not your mama's ballet
The Robert Z. Hawkins Amphitheater at Bartley Ranch Regional Park will come alive with ballet grace and passionate rock, dance and alternative music as A.V.A. Ballet Theatre presents the rock ballet "Vortex" July 15-16 as part of the Artown celebration. The gates open at 7:30 p.m. for picnicking and the shows begin at 8:30 p.m. This is a PG-13 production.
Artistic director Alexander Van Alstyne has choreographed an exciting contemporary ballet. Imagine ballerinas performing grande jetés to music by popular rock artists. The stage will feature scaffolding and exciting props and sets that will create a visual spectacle.
"Vortex" will be free to the public. It is part of the 21st annual Artown festival running throughout July. The monthlong summer arts festival will feature more than 500 events produced by more than 100 cultural organizations and businesses in locations citywide.
