What to wear
Now that it’s clear where to go to view the event, what about the fashion that comes with the race?
According to the Kentucky Derby’s official website, “a myriad of fashions can be found at Derby – from cool sundresses to simple cocktail dresses and even more formal attire. But all these styles have one thing in common: the big Derby hat!”
For men, the website says “modern Derby man possesses an unparalleled color palette. Sun-drenched, tropical colors in bold stripes or busy plaid and bright pastels steal the limelight. Although, if you want a more polished look, a classic navy or pinstripe blazer is always in style.”
Whatever your plans for race day, for die-hard Kentucky Derby fanatics, one thing is certain – it’s a day that provides an excuse for men to break out dapper suits, women to don their fancy dresses, and all fans to drink cocktails and cheer on their favorite horses to win in the 143rd running of the Kentucky Derby.
