As part of its "Healthy Parks Healthy People: Truckee Meadows" initiative, Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation holds the Explore the Outdoors 5K Fun Run and Walk on April 16 at Rancho San Rafael Regional Park. The run kicks-off the Explore the Outdoors 5th Annual Spring Event.

The 5K Fun Run and Walk begins at 9 a.m. April 16 and starts and ends at the Chinese Pagoda, just west of the May Museum at Rancho San Rafael Regional Park. Directly following the 5K is a free 1K Kids Fun Run at 10 a.m. at the start/finish line.

Registered runners can pick up their explorer bags, which include a commemorative T-shirt and other items, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 15 at the Parks Foundation office at 50 Cowan Drive in Idlewild Park. Runners can also pick up their bag from 8 to 8:45 a.m.April 16 at the Chinese Pagoda.

Registration is $30. The Kids 1K Fun Run is free, but parents must preregister their children here. Run proceeds help Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation.

The run is held in conjunction with Explore the Outdoors fifth annual Spring Event, running from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Rancho San Rafael. Families can meet and take photos with PBS KIDS character Nature Cat, explore a multitude of free, fun, hands-on activities and games highlighting the best of the outdoors get discounted May Museum tickets and purchase food from local food trucks.
