Celebrate 35 years of flying at Balloon Race
This September, The Great Reno Balloon Race is celebrating 35 years of flying in Reno. Established in 1982, to keep visitors in town the weekend between the Nevada State Fair and the National Championship Air Races, the festival is now one of Reno's most iconic and beloved special events. From its humble beginnings with just 20 balloons, the festival now features upwards of 90 hot-air balloons soaring about, and more than 120,000 fans attend the event each year. The 35th anniversary event runs Sept. 9-11 at Rancho San Rafael Regional Park, 1595 N. Virginia St.
An Angry Bird will be soaring high above Reno for this year's Great Reno Balloon Race. The hot-air balloon stands 80 feet tall and is estimated to hold 1/2 million fist-sized Angry Birds.
