Editor's picks: Boos & Brews, Nevada Day parade, more
Well, Halloween is nearly here. We've been getting into the Halloween spirit at my house by carving pumpkins, visiting the pumpkin patch and catching classics like "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown." More of that fun will ensue this weekend. One of the awesome things about living in Nevada is the Nevada Day holiday, which is observed -- for days-off-of-work purposes, anyway -- Friday. This means a three-day weekend of fun for celebrating Halloween and Nevada. Does it get any better? Nope.
Here's a look at some fun things to do this weekend:
Boos & Brews Beer Fest
The Nugget Resort Casino is holding its first Boos & Brews Beer Fest on Friday, which will feature unlimited tastes of dozens of delicious brews and the sounds of classic rock cover band Snake Oil Sinners. Wear a costume if you want a chance at winning prizes. Get tickets here.
Nevada Day parade
Nevada is 151 years old this year. Celebrate at the Nevada Day parade, which is held each year in Carson City.. Festivities begin at 8 a.m. Saturday with a hot air balloon launch on Carson Street near the Carson Mall (weather permitting). At 10 a.m., the firing of a canon signals the start of the parade, which begins at the intersection of William and Carson streets.
My family is going to venture into the streets of northwest Reno for trick-or-treating, but if you feel safer checking out a safe trick-or-treat event, there are a couple of options on Saturday. Trick or Treat in the Streets at the National Automobile Museum runs from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 31. Kids can trick-or-treat, play games and see magic shows. Or if you're a canine- or feline-loving family, the Nevada Humane Society's Safe Trick or Treat runs from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday with safe, indoor trick-or-treating, pets in costume and spooky decorations.
