Cooler temps and colorful trees make fall running in Reno both scenic and (relatively) comfortable. Set your sights on some of these fun runs and let yourself fly right through fall.

Light After Dark 5K/10K

Riverview Park, end of Fifth Street, Carson City

Benefiting the nonprofit Advocates to End Domestic Violence, this 5K/10K walk/run on Oct. 15 incorporates the cause of aiding victims with fitness and advocacy. The lit course at Riverview Park features a sandy path, cottonwood trees and possible wild horse sightings. All participants will be given a glow stick to wear during the event. Susan G. Komen Reno Race for the Cure

Reno City Plaza, 10 N. Virginia St​., Reno

Pink hats, pink tutus and survivors will rally to reduce the burden of breast cancer in Northern Nevada on Oct. 16 for the 18th annual Susan G. Komen Reno Race for the Cure at its new location in downtown Reno at City Plaza. The 5K run/walk will raise money to fund breast cancer health care for local women and men and breast cancer research. Participants can sign up here.

Washoe Run for Education

Scheels at the Outlets at Sparks, 1200 Scheels Drive, Sparks

The Washoe Run for Education on Oct. 23 is organized by the Education Alliance, a nonprofit organization created by civic and business leaders in partnership with educators to support all students in Washoe County. There is a run for everyone: a 5K/10K timed run, a half mile fun run and the Sparks Marina March (untimed). Run with the Girls 5K

Damonte Ranch High School, 10500 Rio Wrangler Parkway​, Reno

This 5K run/walk or 10K run will be held Nov. 6 at Damonte Ranch High School and is friendly to all ages and abilities. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Girls on the Run Sierras, a nonprofit that works to instill strength and confidence in young girls through running. Thanksgiving Day Scheels Turkey Trot

Sparks Marina, 1200 Scheels Drive, Sparks

An annual Truckee Meadows tradition, this race on Nov. 24 offers a 10K through the Sparks Marina, city streets and the bike path as well as an untimed two-mile walk or run around the marina. Participants are encouraged to dress in their best Thanksgiving costume to vie for three top costume awards. Proceeds benefit Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful for local beautification projects and the City of Sparks Youth Scholarship Fund. To register click here.

Wobble Before You Gobble

Reno City Plaza, 10 N. Virginia St​., Reno

The 2nd Annual Wobble Before You Gobble on Nov. 24 offers a 5K/10K run/walk/wobble sponsored by the City of Reno. Partial proceeds from this event go directly to Children’s Cabinet as well as 100% raffle proceeds.
