Cargo holds benefit concert for Moms on the Run
Whitney Peak Hotel is committed to giving back to the local community and, in support of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, is hosting a benefit concert for Reno-based Moms on the Run, on Oct. 20.
For the second year in a row, the downtown hotel, Reno’s only nonsmoking, nongaming hotel, has “gone pink,” lighting up the side of the building in neon pink. In addition, Cargo concert hall will welcome Delta Rae with Jillette Johnson for a benefit show on Oct. 20. Proceeds will go to Moms on the Run, a nonprofit organization that provides financial assistance to Northern Nevada patients undergoing breast or gynecological cancer treatment.
“All of us know someone who has been touched by cancer,” said Niki Gross, managing director of the hotel. “Our employees felt it was really important, particularly during National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, to demonstrate our support of a local charity that is providing direct assistance to area residents who are battling cancer.”
Delta Rae is an American folk rock band formed in Durham, North Carolina, that consists of three siblings Ian Hölljes, Eric Hölljes and Brittany Hölljes, as well as Elizabeth Hopkins, Mike McKee and Grant Emerson. Their name hails from a fictional story the Hölljeses' mother intended to write about a Southern girl named Delta Rae, who summons the Greek gods to earth. Touring with Delta Rae is American singer-songwriter Jillette Johnson.
The show starts at 8 p.m. Oct. 20 with doors opening at 7 p.m. Tickets cost $23 at the door. Details: www.cargoreno.com.
