6 must-try sweet treats at Lake Tahoe
Lake Tahoe is undergoing what some are calling a renaissance. For dessert lovers in particular, this is a very good thing. Several new sweet shops have opened with unique treats. From doughnuts to ice-cream sandwiches, here are a few items that are sure to satisfy your sweet tooth.
Glazed and Confused Donuts
South Lake Tahoe’s newest doughnut-delivery service has taken the classic pastry to another level. On top of standard iced doughnuts, the company’s unique flavors range from cookies and cream to raspberry cheesecake. Rather than a traditional retail service, Glazed and Confused bakes and decorates its creations in a commercial kitchen and delivers them to a customer’s door. Delivery is made the day following the order. Delivery only; visit glazedandconfuzedtahoedonut.com to order.
It’s no wonder frozen yogurt has made a commanding comeback. The perfect self-serve food, fro-yo pairs well with a litany of toppings. And Rainbow Sprinkles has a lot of them. From rainbow sprinkles to more complicated toppings like gummy sharks and fresh blackberries, there’s essentially an endless combination of flavors and décor. The bright new South Lake Tahoe shop also offers fresh-baked doughnuts and other sweets.

Though not entirely devoted to dessert, Creative Crepes still serves a tasty last course. Perfect for those who can’t handle the intense sugar highs of some of the area’s other outlets, Creative Crepes has fresh options like strawberry shortcake and berry swirl. There’s also simple combinations like BSC-butter, sugar, cinnamon- or more complex like the blue lagoon, Nutella, blueberries, Irish crème and brown sugar.

The Baked Bear
The Baked Bear will change your dessert life. Not your average ice cream scoop, the Reno-based chain shapes their entire business on ice cream sandwiches. Choose from brownie, doughnut or cookie combinations -- 12 types -- surrounding your choice of 14 flavors of ice cream, like mint chip, strawberry, cheesecake, cookie dough and salted caramel. Sandwiches are hot pressed, giving the outer a perfect warmth and melting the ice cream into gooey deliciousness. The resulting sweet mess is best eaten with a spoon.
