6 things to do in North Lake Tahoe this summer
In with the summer come barbecues, bicycles and bikinis. That is what you get on Lake Tahoe, too, as it gears up for a bunch of fun events all through summer.
With a variety of food, adventure and family events planned ahead for the heat, grab your sunscreen and summer hats as you soak in some Vitamin D and let loose on the beautiful waters of Tahoe.
There are a bunch of biking events lined up for kids and adults throughout the summer. If you have a child between the ages of 10 and 14, the Kids Bike Camps are two-day camps running from 9 a.m. to noon every weekend through Aug. 27 for $99 per child at Tahoe Donner Bikeworks.
Ride with the Tahoe Mountain Bike Girls (Formerly Team LUNA Chix Tahoe Mountain Bike) this summer at Alder Creek Adventure Center, hosted by Tahoe Donner Bikeworks. Meet other female mountain bikers and explore the trails around Tahoe Donner at 5:30 p.m. July 11 and July 25. Cost: Free.
If you are new to mountain biking, there are two introductory camps for beginners at Tahoe Donner. Learn the basic skills of mountain biking from certified mountain biking instructors through Women’s Introduction to Mountain Biking Series from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 15 and Aug. 5 at Tahoe Donner Bikeworks. Cost: $149 per session. Kids ages 9-12 can learn from the FUN-damental Mountain Biking Series for Kids from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 15 and Aug. 5 at Tahoe Donner Bikeworks.
Wanderlust Yoga & Music Festival
Wanderlust brings together yoga teachers, musical acts and DJs, speakers, chefs, winemakers and more July 20-23 at Squaw Valley USA, 1960 Squaw Valley Road, Olympic Valley. There's so many activities to choose from: yoga, meditation, music, workshops, art, expeditions and farm-to-table food events.
Donner Lake Triathlon and Truckee Open Water Swim
Join in for a jam-packed weekend of racing at beautiful Donner Lake in Truckee for the 35th Donner Lake Triathlon, the sixth annual Donner Lake Kids Triathlon and the fourth annual Donner Lake Half Triathlon. Enjoy music, vendors, barbecue and more during the event, which runs from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 22-23 at Donner Lake. Details: 530-546-1019.
Homewood Fine Arts and Crafts Festival
Visit the free event that brings together a group of more than 30 artists showcasing an assortment of collectible arts and crafts in a variety of media including paintings, ceramics, jewelry, woodwork, photography and much more. From July 21-23 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day at the Homewood Mountain Resort.
It’s the sixth season of orchestral and chamber music concerts at Classical Tahoe. Musical performances take place in an acoustical tent on the campus of Sierra Nevada College at Incline Village, in beautiful Lake Tahoe, each Friday and Saturday July 28-Aug. 12. There will be food, wine and nonalcoholic beverages available for purchase prior to each event and during intermission. Picnic areas are available for your enjoyment, around and outside the tent.
Ta-Hoe Nalu Paddle Festival
The Ta-Hoe Nalu Paddle Festival is fun for all ages and skill levels. The Ta-Hoe Nalu Paddle Festival includes a reception party, live music on the beach, vendors and manufacturer exhibits, free paddle clinics and demos for beginners and advanced paddlers. The festival is Aug. 12-13 at Kings Beach State Park in Kings Beach.
