If you're on the lake on Monday, Aug. 15 you may catch the Tahoe Yacht Club (TYC) as they sponsor the 26th annual Wooden Boat Week Over-the-Bottom event.

A classic course

This special event requires participants to be ready to collect race instructions on the water at 8:30 a.m. off Obexer’s Marina. Then finish about one hour later by the Tahoe City Marina.  There will be a separate start for all wooden boats beginning at 9 a.m. with each boat starting one minute apart. Tahoe Yacht Club and others joining the fun will run the same course, with separate trophies for both divisions.

Skippers and crew will pick-up the instructions for the race from the TYC Committee Boat. At this time, boats may also participate in the $20 voluntary ‘Calcutta’ that could lead to riches for the winning boat.  Although no specialized equipment is required, and speeds are not excessive, many skippers believe that both a GPS and a stop watch are useful.

Got what it takes?

History has proved that a successful performance in an OTB requires limited navigational knowledge, some boat handling skills and most importantly a whole lot of luck. Registration for these events is required.  The rally is $35 per boat, and the Brunch at TYC is $25 per person.
