Northern Nevada’s restaurant week returns Oct. 12-18. Reno Bites restaurant week celebrates local gastronomy within dozens of Reno venues.


Northern Nevada’s weeklong culinary cacophony returns Oct. 12-18, with a preview kickoff event on Oct. 8, as Reno Bites restaurant week celebrates local gastronomy within dozens of Reno restaurants and venues.

Reno Provisions will begin the foodie frenzy with a free preview kickoff event beginning at 5 p.m. Oct. 8. Small plates crafted by several of the participating chefs, plus Tahoe Blue Vodka cocktails, will be served throughout the downtown venue. Guests also will be able to pick up their Yelp Passport to Reno Bites.

Throughout the week, Passport holders are encouraged to collect stickers when visiting participating restaurants and Signature Events, then turn it in at the Chef Showdown where those with the most stickers accumulated can win prizes.

A week of incentives to explore Reno’s diverse cuisine begins officially on Oct. 12. The fourth annual restaurant week features 30 participating chefs and restaurants, plus eight signature events.

Specialty items and discounted $10, $20 or $30 price points can be found at Bistro 7, Brasserie St. James, Burger Me, Café DeLuxe, Café de Thai, Campo, Centro, Chez Louie, Homage Bakery, La Vecchia, Men Wielding Fire, Minato Sushi & Bar, Moo Dang Thai Restaurant, Noble Pie Parlor, Old Granite Street Eatery, Our Bar, Pignic, Reno Provisions, Rounds Bakery, SoDo, SouthCreek Pizza Co., Süp Restaurant, Thai Corner Café, The Cheese Board, Twisted Fork, Walden’s Coffeeshop, Wild River Grille and Zozo’s Ristorante.

Signature Events this year include Homage Bakery’s “Fat Tuesday” Mardi Gras-themed masquerade party on Oct. 13; a multi-course, alpine-perched Southern cuisine extravaganza provided by Blend Catering on Oct. 14; a whiskey and small bite pairing at The Depot on Oct. 15, put on by The Reno Memo; Pigtoberfest at Pignic on Oct. 16; a Bloody Mary competition and tasting at Chez Louie on Oct. 18; and an interactive dough- and pizza-making class at SouthCreek Pizza Co., also on Oct. 18.

One of the highlights of the week is the free Chef Showdown starting at 2 p.m. Oct. 17 at CZYZ’s Appliance. Eight of Reno’s top chefs will compete against each other in a limited time frame to prepare the best dish -- chosen by a panel of food-enthusiasts and experts -- using three ingredients only revealed to them moments before they begin cooking.

This year, Sierra Meats will provide barbecue items to be prepared by Chef Mark Estee at the Showdown, and beverages will also be provided for guests to enjoy while taking in the dynamic and exhilarating event.

After the Showdown, Bistro 7 will be offering happy-hour menu and pricing for the entire evening at the Reno Bites Chef Showdown After Party, beginning at 6 p.m.
