Renowned Napa Valley winery Darioush has teamed with the Atlantis Steakhouse in offering what's likely Reno's first-ever Persian wine dinner, An Evening with Johnathan L. Wright Accent on Persia dinner, on Sept. 16 at the Atlantis Casino Resort Spa, 3800 S. Virginia St. This is the latest in a series of themed dinners hosted by Reno Gazette-Journal's food and drink editor Johnathan L. Wright during the past five years at the Atlantis.

The dinner will feature a bevy of cocktails and wine paired with authentic Persian dishes. The dinner begins at 6 p.m. with a reception featuring a caviar canape paired with a sour cherry martini. The first course is called "green bites" and comprises sheep's milk cheese, walnuts, grapes, clay oven lavash, salad Shirazi, yogurt with cucumber, mint and dried rose petal paired with the 2012 Darioush "Signature" Napa Valley viognier. The second course is a chicken kabab with jeweled rice paired with the 2013 Darioush "Signature" Napa Valley chardonnay.

The third course is a duet of Persian stews -- duck with pomegranate and walnuts and veal with fresh herbs and dried key lime with a golden rice crust, which is paired with the 2012 Darioush "Signature" Napa Valley shiraz. The fourth course is saffron-braised lamb shank with fava beans, steamed rice and fresh dill paired with the 2011 Darioush "Signature" Napa Valley cabernet franc. For dessert, guests will tuck into rose saffron ice cream with pistachios, a variety of Persian desserts and traditional tea service.

The cost for the all-inclusive dinner is $125. Reservations are recommended and may be made by calling 775-824-4411.
