Why is brunch our favorite meal? It could be because it is that magical time after breakfast and before lunch when drinking vodka and champagne before noon is acceptable. You have the comfort of breakfast food with the versatility of lunch. Not to mention, brunch is the ultimate hangover event. You don't have to get up when the sun does, and the inclusion of alcohol allows for a seamless transition from headache into day drinking.
This is by no means a comprehensive list but just a few ideas to brighten your day.
Brunching on the town
The Little Waldorf, open 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., features typical bar food and a festive campus environment. At 1661 N. Virginia St., it’s easily within walking distance of Rancho San Rafael Park for an after brunch stroll.
Peg’s Glorified Ham n Eggs, open 6:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily, is a longtime locals' favorite. The downtown Reno location at 420 S. Sierra St. is their closest restaurant to the casinos where your late night may have turned into an early morning. Try visiting a sister location at 6300 Mae Anne Ave. in Northwest Reno or 720 South Meadows Parkway in South Reno or 1495 Prater Way in Sparks.
Old Granite Street Eatery downtown at 243 S. Sierra St. offers brunch on the weekends beginning at 10 a.m. and serves cocktails (coffee-infused whiskey, anyone?), seasonal quiches, salmon benedicts, sandwiches and more. Much of the food is locally sourced from area ranches and farms.
Hash House a Go Go, located inside Harrah’s Reno at 219 N. Center St., boasts “twisted farm food.” Think sage fried chicken benedict with a maple reduction or bacon mashed potatoes. Try their griddled French toast: Amish-style bread dipped in banana cinnamon cream with pecan maple syrup.
Squeeze In, a local name that’s practically synonymous with brunch, has several local locations in addition to their new game-changer: online ordering. The Northwest Reno location is at 5020 Las Brisas Blvd., while a South Reno location is at 25 Foothill Road, Suite 3. There’s also a Sparks location and the original Squeeze In flagship in Truckee.
