This fall, Grand Sierra Resort and Casino brings together the region’s top breweries and award-winning chili from around the world for the Grand Sierra Chili & Beer Festival. In addition to beer and chili, the event will feature more than 75 craft vendors, a Fire House Chili Challenge, local Chef Showdown and big name entertainment including modern swing sensations the Cherry Poppin’ Daddies, Jackson Michelson, The Novelists, Jelly Bread, Hindsight and more.

Several local and regional craft breweries will be on hand presenting tastings of their most popular brews as well as seasonal varieties and new releases.

Proceeds will benefit the local chapter of Make- A-Wish.

50th Annual World’s Championship Cookoff

Over 300 of the top cookers from around the world vie for title of World Champion, a total prize package of $50,000 and the coveted People’s Choice Award. The event is sanctioned by the International Chili Society and will serve as the culmination of cook-offs from around the nation, crowning a new World’s Champion in categories including Homestyle Chili, Salsa, Chili Verde and Traditional Red. All competitors in this event are $25,000 winners from the last 50 years.

Fire House Chili Challenge

The winning firehouse receives $1,000 for the charity of its choice. Local chefs will join in on the fun as part of a Chef Showdown featuring some of the region’s top chefs competing to be named the top local chili cooker and also receive $1,000 to the charity of their choice.

The event runs from Friday, Oct. 21 through Sunday, Oct. 23. Entry to the event, which includes live entertainment and craft vendors, is free. Event timing and ticket pricing for chili and beer tasting is as follows:

  • Friday, Oct. 21 from 2 to 6 p.m.
    • $15 unlimited chili tasting
  • Saturday, Oct. 22 from 1 to 7 p.m.
    • $50 unlimited chili tasting, unlimited beer sampling and a commemorative tasting glass
    • $40 unlimited beer sampling and a commemorative tasting glass
    • $20 unlimited chili tasting
  • Sunday, Oct. 23 from 12 to 4 p.m.
    • $50 unlimited chili tasting, unlimited beer sampling and a commemorative tasting glass
    • $40 unlimited beer sampling and a commemorative tasting glass
    • $20 unlimited chili tasting
