The historic mountain mining town of Virginia City continues its reputation for quirky events with the World Championship Outhouse Races and Undie Run Relay Oct. 3-4.
The ultimate spectator event, costumed outhouse racers are pitted against each other as they rush down the town’s main drag, C Street, with one rider taking the throne as the other two race to the toilet paper finish line.
New this year is the inaugural Undie Run Relay, which challenges teams of three to run the length of the course, slam a 25-ounce beer and complete an obstacle before tagging the next team member with the toilet paper “baton.”
The Parade of Outhouses begins at noon Oct. 3 with both undie and outhouse races immediately following. Outhouse racing continues at noon Oct. 4 and concludes with the crowning of the champion outhouse racing team.
Undie Run Relay online team registration is open until Oct. 2. Teams must consist of three people with all participants older than 21. For more information on this event or to enter a team, visit online or call the Virginia City Tourism Commission at 775-847-7500.
