Runners, zombies and living dead registrants encounter various historic and spooky landmarks throughout the course, including the V&T Train Graveyard, Virginia City’s China Town and more.
The history and prevalence of paranormal reports in Virginia City make it a perfect setting for a zombie-themed obstacle run, happening Oct. 10, 2015 with Redrun III: A Zombie Manifestival. The historic mountain mining town has been noted as one of the country's most haunted ghost towns and attracts seekers of the paranormal from all over the world.
New this year, Redrun features two course options, a 3.33-mile and a more challenging 6.66-mile course. Both courses traverse the rugged Virginia City terrain and include a number of themed dead zones where zombies hide and aim to capture the runners’ flags, and some unique and challenging obstacles. Runners, zombies and living dead registrants encounter various historic and spooky landmarks throughout the course, including the V&T Train Graveyard, Virginia City’s China Town, the Yellow Jacket Mine and more. Full course descriptions and the historical landmarks they pass through can be found here.
Participants can join the event in three ways: as a living runner, a living dead (zombie) or as a living insane. Living runners travel the race course in its entirety, dodging living dead and living insane all the while. Living dead and living insane, available for preregistration only, are assigned to specific zones with the goal of capturing flags of the living runners. Living dead and living insane registration includes zombie makeup by Body Paint Factory of Reno. Upgraded makeup options also are available.
Following the race, the Zombie Manifestival takes place in the heart of Virginia City and includes live music by the Wiz Kid, the Redrun Saloon Crawl, Redrun merchandise and the Coors Light Graveyard. Access to the Zombie Manifestival is included for Redrun participants. The Redrun Saloon Crawl costs $20 and includes a limited edition cup, a free beer, specialty drink samples and discounted full drink orders at all participating Virginia City saloons.
