Hosting the official kickoff event for the 29th annual Hot August Nights was deemed such a success by event and city officials that Virginia City and the longstanding event agreed to a three-year partnership to continue the tradition. The Comstock town will welcome the event’s rumbling engines and nostalgic tunes to kickoff its 30th anniversary event July 29-30, 2016.

From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day, car enthusiasts can walk the historic streets of Virginia City to see an array of cars from yesteryear. The official kickoff cruise will take place from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. daily.

Virginia City and Hot August Nights could not have been more pleased with how well the 2015 inaugural kickoff event turned out for both parties said event officials.

“It was a win-win for everyone. As we look to host next year’s event, we can now start planning an even bigger kickoff celebration to one of the nation’s largest hot rod events,” said Deny Dotson, director for the Virginia City Tourism Commission. “The pairing of classic cars with our historic town couldn’t have been better and with that, makes us very proud to continue our association with such a top-notch organization like Hot August Nights."

With the official kickoff location confirmed, Hot August Nights is also helping to make planning for next year’s event easier with the opening of its discounted early-registration process, and a simple new platform to do so online. The 30th anniversary event is scheduled for Aug. 2-7, 2016, in Reno-Sparks.

“Earlier this year, we launched a new website with more capabilities for our participants,” said Mike Whan, executive director of Hot August Nights. “The new platform allows our fans -- from across the globe -- to register and pay online versus mailing in or walking in forms and payments. With this new system we’ll be able to streamline the registration process for both the main event and Virginia City.”

Registration for the 2016 event is open to all 1976 and older cars, pickup size trucks, and emergency vehicles. Early registration for the main event is open through Oct. 2, 2015 at a discounted rate of $160. After that, the price will go to $170 per vehicle until May 31, 2016. Registration for the Virginia City event is $40, and opens today.
