Reigning rib-eating record-holder Joey Chestnut will compete against archrival and number-one-ranked eater Matt Stonie
Reigning rib-eating record-holder Joey Chestnut will compete against archrival and number-one-ranked eater Matt Stonie at the 10th Annual Nugget World Rib-Eating Championship in Sparks, Nevada. The event, to be held at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2015, is part of the 27th annual Best in the West Nugget Rib Cook-Off.
The Nugget World Rib-Eating Championship is legendary on the Major League Circuit and will feature the world's finest competitive eaters, including Miki Sudo, the number-four-ranked eater, who has consumed 104 hard-boiled eggs in eight minutes and Crazy Legs Conti, the world sweet corn and lumberjack breakfast-eating champion.
The competitor who downs the most rib meat from the bone in 12 minutes will be crowned the Best in the West Nugget World Rib-Eating Champion and will win the lion's share of the $5,000 cash purse. Chestnut currently holds the world record of 13.76 pounds of pork rib meat in 12 minutes.
"Major League Eating is proud to join the Nugget Casino Resort to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Nugget World Rib-Eating Championship," says event emcee Sam Barclay. "And this year's event promises to be the best yet, with reigning Nugget Rib Champion and World Rib-Eating Record Holder Joey Chestnut set to face his nemesis, Matthew Stonie, the man who recently dethroned him as the #1-ranked Eater in the World."
The rib-eating contest will kick off the 27th Annual Best in the West Nugget Rib Cook-Off, a six-day barbecue festival that draws more than 500,000 people each year. Featuring St. Louis-style ribs, the contest will conform to the Major League Eating judging model, in which ribs are weighed prior to the contest and then again after the contest to determine the exact amount of rib meat eaten by each competitor.
