Move over bottles and kegs — canned beer takes center stage during CANFEST at the Peppermill Resort Spa Casino in Reno on Saturday, Aug. 29. The event brings canned beers from coast to coast to a single site for unlimited sampling.
"Cans have been a staple of cheap, low-quality beer for decades, and we want to change that perception," said Katie Silva, corporate communications manager at the Peppermill. "Canned beers should be celebrated, and that's what CANFEST does."
Far from the bottom-of-the-barrel beers often associated with cans, the brews poured at CANFEST have been crafted with care. Silva said representatives from 30 to 50 breweries will participate in the canned-beer festival and competition, with more than 100 beers available to taste.
"It's everything from ciders and domestic brands to award-winning microbrews hailing from Oregon, Connecticut, Wisconsin, Texas, Tennessee and anywhere in between," she said.
Along with this bounty of beers, CANFEST also features a broad array of entertainment, such as free live music, a silent disco, aerial acrobats, games and mini-bike races. Tickets are on sale now and are $25 for students, $35 in advance, $40 at the door and $60 for VIP. These fees include unlimited beer samples throughout the event, which runs from 6 to 11 p.m.
"VIP ticket holders receive a dinner buffet at the event and access to the festival one hour early," Silva said. "It's great for beer aficionados who want to meet brewers and skip lines at their favorite booths."
