Stage something swingin’ with “Zoot Suit Riot” running Dec. 29 through Jan. 3 in the Eldorado Theatre. “Zoot Suit Riot” will feature that big band sound and swing dancing that made the youth of the era feel alive in a time when the world was at war. The show will blend big band music of the era with modern hits from such artists as Cherry Poppin’ Daddies, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy and the Brian Setzer Orchestra.

While World War II raged on, a cultural renaissance was taking place on the streets of Los Angeles, and music led the way. Many new types of music were introduced to audiences in the U.S. including bebop, rhythm and blues, rock and roll, mambo and big band swing, which captured the nation. Big band swing is a derivative of the earlier big band jazz of Afro-Cuban origin. It typically refers to a musical ensemble consisting of saxophones, trumpets, trombones and a rhythm section. This style of music became popular as a result of its catchy dance tunes, uninhibited sound and wildly arranged solos.

Prepare for a toe-tapping evening and reserve tickets for “Zoot Suit Riot” in the Eldorado Theatre today. Tickets start at just $26.95, children 12 and younger from $19.95 and seniors over 60 from $24.95.
