The Nugget Casino Resort in Sparks will produce nightly, free concerts during the 27th Annual Best in the West Nugget Rib Cook-Off.

"When we pick the bands, we look for artists who put on fun live shows," said Lisa Jansen, director of special events and entertainment at the Nugget. "Great music is essential to creating a street-festival atmosphere and it's a job we don't take lightly."

More than 40 bands will play on multiple stages during the six-day event, Sept. 2-7 on Victorian Square in Sparks. The most popular acts will perform on the main stage.

"Barbecue festivals take place all over the country, but the Best in the West Nugget Rib Cook-Off is unique because we don't charge people to get in, and we don't charge to see the concerts," Jansen said. "We want people to come join us for the party."

The following acts will take the main stage for the free concerts:

Jelly Bread an Mojo Green, two of Reno's most funky bands, kick off opening night of the Nugget Rib Cook-Off at 7 p.m. Sept. 2.

Jamestown Revival plays at 7 p.m. Sept. 3. The indie rock duo's album, "Utah," was named Best Singer/Songwriter Album of the Year for 2014 by iTunes. The Austin, Texas-based group describes its style as back-porch folk rock.

Dishwalla will sing its hit "Counting Blue Cars" and other songs at 7 p.m. Sept. 4. Some critics have called Dishwalla "one of the best live bands to come out of the '90s." Friday night's entertainment is sponsored in part by Reno Media Group and Alice 96.5 FM.

Up-and-coming country duo LOCASH performs at 7 p.m. Sept. 5. The duo has enjoyed success with hits such as "Keep In Mind" and "The Best Seat in the House." Band members wrote the chart-topping "You Gonna Fly" for Keith Urban and "Truck Yeah" for Tim McGraw. Saturday night's entertainment is sponsored in part by Cumulus Media and KBUL 98.1 Nash FM.

Classic rock band Foghat plays at 7 p.m. Sept. 6. The English rock band formed in 1971. The band has achieved eight gold records, one platinum and one double-platinum record with hits such as "Slow Ride," "I Just Want to Make Love to You" and "Fool for the City." Sunday night's entertainment is sponsored in part by Lotus Communications Corp. and KOZZ 105.7 FM.

ALO closes the cook-off at 3 p.m. Sept. 7. This group weaves jazz, blues and funk into a California party blend sound. Hits include "Girl I Wanna Lay You Down" featuring Jack Johnson, "Barbecue" and "Maria."
