Noah Chubb-Silverman is the executive director and co-founder of the Reno Bike Project. The Reno Bike Project has been providing an affordable resource for cyclists for the last decade, as well as hosting events, advocating with local government and educating the public with the mission of creating a world-class cycling community.

Born in Reno, Chubb-Silverman moved away for 10 years then returned to co-found Reno Bike Project in 2006.

WHY DID YOU CREATE THIS COMPANY IN RENO?

Because we are from Reno and wanted to make Reno into a world renowned cycling community.

IS YOUR COMPANY GROWING? HOW, WHY?

We are growing in the number of people we serve, over 10,000 in 2015, as well as in our revenue, up 17 percent in 2015 over 2014. We are growing in number of employees, up to three full-times since Jan 1, 2015.

Our shop is growing, which generates 70 percent of our revenue. This is in part due to increased awareness about our product, as well as a general increase in the number of cyclists in the area.

We are also growing our programs, which are becoming more established and serving more people.

Because of all this growth we have been able to add more employees.

HOW COULD SOMEONE GET INTO THIS TYPE OF WORK?

People either come to us because they have worked in bike shops and love the work, or they volunteer for us, and then we make them permanent and hire them.

We also just started a job training program for at-risk youth. It's a 20-week program that teaches everything from safe riding skills and in-depth bicycle mechanics to customer services skills and resume building.

HOW DOES YOUR COMPANY HELP RENO GROW?

Our goal is to build the cycling community, making it safe and vibrant for everyone. These are quality-of-life indicators that drive people to relocate to places like Reno. We are creating a place where we are proud to live, and that is going to be apparent when other people and companies visit and help attract new residents and industry.

WHAT DO YOU SEE AS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING RENO NEEDS TO CONTINUE TO GROW?

A more diversified economy and a long range transportation plan that is not totally focused on cars, but includes alternative transportation such as bus, and more likely rail.

Also, a world-class ice cream shop would be nice.
