Anytime Fitness, a gym chain with more than 3,400 locations, started work opening on the ground floor of 50 W. Liberty St. in downtown Reno. The 24/7 gym will use about 6,600 square feet and plans to open in summer.

“It’s exciting to see one of the most successful gym franchises in the world coming to downtown Reno,” Scott Stranzl, vice president of leasing for Basin Street Properties, said in a press release. “The residents and business professionals of downtown and Midtown Reno are active and health conscious and we think the Anytime Fitness offering will be an excellent fit.”

Anytime Fitness demonstrates the continued growth of downtown Reno, according to Basin Street Properties, after Patagonia, West Elm and 3rd Street Flats opened nearby.

“We spent a considerable amount of time scouting out the ideal Midtown/downtown location,” Brandon Borden, owner and operator of four Anytime Fitness locations in Reno, said in a press release. “We needed convenient parking, easy access from both Midtown and downtown, open high ceilings and space for private bathrooms and showers."

Fizio

Fizio, a fitness facility and athlete recovery lounge, recently opened in downtown Reno at 400 Mill Street. Fizio's athlete recovery lounge is modeled after the Olympic Training Center and collegiate training rooms.

“Lauren (Evans) and I were both collegiate athletes and while competing we had access to our training room," Co-owner Ryan Evans said in a press release. "We wanted to recreate that atmosphere at Fizio and make it accessible to everyone."

“Our goal is to make Fizio an athlete hangout," Lauren Evans said in a press release. "A place where you can relax, have a beer or wine, socialize with friends and recover."

Members of Fizio have unlimited access to many different types of recovery tools, including compression boots, infrared sauna, ice compression and LaserTouchOne, to help them recover from training or injury.

Fizio offers group classes from Barre to HIIT, personal training, the daily workout, an open gym and two free group runs a week — a Pub Run on Wednesday evening and a Community Run on Saturday morning.

On the corner of Mill and Holcomb streets, Fizio is in a part of downtown that is also experiencing transformation. Whipple Brewing and Distillery is set to open right next door, Mill Street Lofts and Tiny 10 housing developments started construction and Origins Salon recently opened in the same building as Fizio.

“I am a Reno native and am really passionate about making this community better," Ryan Evans said in a press release. "That was a big motivation to open Fizio."

Lauren added, “Growing up in a military family, I have lived in many places overseas and in the United States," Lauren Evans said in a press release. "I moved to Reno four years ago after I met Ryan and I think it is an amazing city with so much potential. We are excited to be open in downtown Reno and to work together with other like-minded people to revitalize this part of town.”
