Meet the gold winner of the Best Chef category in Reno.com and Reno Magazine's inaugural Best of Reno contest, Michael Mahoney. He'll be doing a cooking demonstration Oct. 12 inside Charlie Palmer Lounge at the Grand Sierra Resort and Casino, 2500 E. Second St.
Mahoney plans to cook an ahi tuna dish. There also will be a reception with wine and appetizers and a chance to meet Mahoney, as well as a question-and-answer session following the demonstration.
Mahoney is the corporate sous chef at Charlie Palmer Steak inside the Grand Sierra Resort and Casino. He is a Reno native and graduate of Hug High School who studied culinary arts at The Art Institute of California in Sacramento, where he graduated in 2012. He worked his way up, starting as a line cook at the Grand Sierra Resort right after graduating. He worked his way up to his current position after being promoted at Briscola and then Charlie Palmer Steak.
Top categories in the Best of Reno: Food & Drink category were local bartender, burger, bakery, and breakfast/brunch restaurant.
The results from this year's Best of Reno contest, powered by Reno.com and Reno Magazine, were announced Sept. 10. In all, more than 190,000 votes were cast in the contest. Readers first nominated businesses, people and places for the ballot, and then voted for their favorites from that list.
This event is presented in partnership with the Grand Sierra Resort and Casino.
