Reno public pools

Each summer, Reno residents and visitors can expect the desert heatwaves to roll in, pushing the mercury to 100 degrees or more. Nothing is better for fending off those soaring temps than taking a refreshing dip in a pool.

Folks of all ages can enjoy a swim at any of Reno and Sparks' public pools. Get an annual pass, a 10-visit pass or pay by the day. If you like more than a casual dip with the kids and want to get a serious aerobic workout with lap swims – the pools have a program for you, too. • Evelyn Mount Northeast Community Center Pool
This 25-yard indoor pool has four lap lanes and ranges in depth from 3 feet to 5 feet. An ADA automatic lift to assists individuals in and out of the water and kids can ride on the recreational float. Lockers are available.

• Northwest Pool
Take a swim in one of the eight lap-lanes at this indoor pool with a retractable roof. Lanes stretch 25 yards and vary in depth from 3.5 feet to 10 feet. The easy-access stairs and an ADA automatic lift make the pool accessible for most individuals. Lockers and a training pool are available, and a 30-foot Captain Nemo inflatable water toy will wow the little ones.

• Idlewild Pool
The seasonal pool at Idlewild Park offers the great outdoors, sun and fun. At 50 meters, swimmers can work out in the eight lap-lanes, practice a dive off one of the two 1-meter boards, and play Water Polo. The pool ranges from 3.5 feet to 10 feet deep, and comes equipped with the ADA automatic pool lift and lockers. Kids will love the training pool and volleyball.

• Traner Pool (seasonal)
The outdoor pool is a summer paradise for kids. The 25-yard pool offers a double flume water slide, a water playground, and beach parties each August with snow cones, games and prizes. Eight lap lanes are available, and the pool offers an ADA automatic pool lift, lockers and ranges in depth from 3.5 feet to 10 feet.

Sparks public pools

• Alf Sorensen Community Center
For more than 25 years this large indoor pool has been home to swim meets, lessons and water play of all kinds. A 25-yeard pool, two one-meter diving boards and a tot pool heated to 90 degrees means the whole family can have fun here.
