'Peanutcracker' opens Dec. 3

Kid-size version of 'The Nutcracker" comes to town

The Sierra Nevada Ballet will present the Peanutcracker – The Story in Nut Shell throughout the region this December. Based on the Peter Tchaikovsky’s ballet The Nutcracker, Peanutcracker is a shorter, 45-minute narrated version that is “designed for families with younger children to introduce them to the wonderful world of ballet,” noted Rosine Bena, Artistic Director of the Sierra Nevada Ballet.

Carson City – Dec. 3
The shows are scheduled for 10 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the Carson City Community Center. Ticket are $5 for students, seniors and BAC members. All other tickets are $10. For more information, contact BAC at (775) 833-1976 or visit www.breweryarts.org.

Virginia City – Dec. 14
Presented for the public at Piper’s Opera House in Virginia City on Sunday, Dec. 14, at 2:30 p.m.. Ticket prices start at $5 for students and seniors. All other tickets are $10. For more information, visit www.pipersoperahouse.comor call (866) 422-1956.

Reno – Dec. 17
Students in the Reno area can enjoy this special holiday event at the Pioneer Center for Performing Arts on Dec. 17 at 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. For ticket information, contact the Sierra Nevada Ballet at (775) 783-3223.

This year’s performances will feature the Ballet's professional dancers, apprentices, and trainees, in addition to dance students from schools in the local community.

Sponsor a child program
Through the generosity of many sponsors, Sierra Nevada Ballet was able to invite thousands of “at risk” children to attend performances at the Pioneer Center for free and over 3,000 to attend at the reduced rate of $5.
