Downtown Reno does brisk business

Single-family home sales and sales-prices continued to decline in Washoe County during the first quarter of 2008, but the area's condo market seems to be the area's rising star amid the fallout from the housing slump. In particular, new condos in the downtown Reno area have enjoyed relatively brisk sales during the past few quarters, and sales prices are actually on the rise, which is in stark contrast to what's happening in the single-family market. In the past year, sales of new condos in Washoe County were up 7%, and the median sales price was up 3%.

Home buyer sues when appraiser misses leaky roof

It's been more than 13 years, but "the leaky roof" case in Washington state is still at the top of the list when it comes to defining and understanding the basic responsibilities of appraisers and inspectors. It's also become the prime ammunition used by defense attorneys in seeking restitution for their clients.
A recent example surfaced a few months ago when a Seattle-area woman made an offer on an older one-story, weekend home in the Cascade Mountains. It was more updated than the typical cabin -- insulated floors, energy-saving windows and a new septic system. She did not have the home inspected by an accredited home inspector. However, when she discovered the roof leaked, she began to mount a case against the appraiser.

Reno development group, community get 'Extreme' for those in need

When the West Haven Development Group in Reno received the call last December that we were chosen to be part of the Extreme Makeover experience for a family in Nevada, we were stunned, honored and elated to show the entire world what a great community we have, and why we are proud to call Northern Nevada our home.
The family
The Boettcher family has been running a ministry out of their garage east of Reno for kids who have been exposed to drugs, alcohol abuse. Sadly, some children had even committed suicide. The Boettcher's were not looking for worldwide attention; only help to save the lives of these kids.
The preparation
When the Extreme Makeover: Home Edition team made that first call to West Haven and said that we were going to build a custom home AND a new community center on the Boettcher property we said "no problem."
