2008 Reno Rodeo overview

Do not miss the 3rd largest and richest rodeo in North America, the Reno Rodeo, with more than $2.5 million going to the world’s toughest cowboys and cowgirls.

More than 800 contestants will enter to compete in the Reno Rodeo June 19 –28. Fans can see the winners compete up to three times during the 9-day performance, and are guaranteed to see the World's Top 15 cowboys in each event perform for cash prizes and the event winner receives the coveted Reno Rodeo Silver Spurs. Total purse for the rodeo is more than $550,000. The Reno Rodeo is one of the premier stops on the Wrangler Summer Rodeo Tour and will be nationally broadcast on Fox Sports Net, ESPN and ESPN2. Nevada is the rodeo state.

The celebration begins with the Miss Reno Rodeo pageant and on June 15, with a 5-day Cattle Drive that starts in Doyle, Calif., and ends at the rodeo grounds.

June 19, is the kickoff to the Reno Rodeo with PRCA Xtreme Bulls, one night of Pro bull riding only as 40 cowboys compete for $40,000 cash. June 20, is the first of 9 pro rodeo performances to attend with PRCA events including Bareback, Saddle Bronc, Bull Riding, Women's Professional Barrel Racing, Team Roping, Steer Wrestling and Tie-Down Roping. Reno will be known as the roping capital of rodeo with the addition of the Wrangler World’s Greatest Roper with 20 of the world’s best ropers competing on June 21 and 22. See the world’s richest amateur team roping, the Reno Rodeo Invitational Amateur Team Roping Competition, produced by Perry DiLoreto with a $1,000,000 purse and the world's richest pro team roping, the Bob Feist Invitational with an over $600,000 purse.

Other events during the rodeo week are Drill Team competitions and Team Penning and Cutting. There is fun for the whole family with a full carnival, cowboy country shops with over one hundred vendors and carnival food and a mouth-watering food court with plenty of great restaurant quality food.
