Awesome pizza found under a rock ... a Black Rock, that is

I’ve always felt there are three staples in life; beer, cereal and pizza. Clearly, I’m not a gourmand or a “foodie” ... but I do love pizza. And lo and behold there’s a kickin’ little pizza joint here in the Truckee Meadows. Sparks, to be specific.
Black Rock Pizza Company, tucked into the big Raley’s shopping center on McCarran and Pyramid, has some of the most bizarre pizza combinations I’ve ever seen ... and hilarious names to go along with them. My favorite is the Thai Yi Yo; one of my daughters only orders the Razorback. If you’re not clear, the Thai pizza is a little bit spicy, great peanut sauce, chunks of chicken and peppers; the Razorback is just about every kind of pork product imaginable (OK, not really, but the thing has more meat on it than the recently lost Anna Nicole) plus some green onions for fun and respite.
There are dozens more wacky and awesome varieties, but if you’re a purist, like my pepperoni daughter, have no fear ... they have that, too. With two kinds of crust, five kinds of sauce and a wealth of toppings, you can make the pie of your dreams. Black Rock Pizza also has great beers on tap (Sierra Nevada Pale Ale and others I never make it to ordering) that come by the glass, the half pitcher or pitcher. Plenty of soda and wine choices, too, not to mention sandwiches, salads and appetizers. But you gotta try a pizza... take it from a pizza-lovin fool.
