Hot August Nights: General event information

Celebrating classic cars, poodle skirts and musical hits of the 50s and 60s since 1896, Hot August Nights is a unique celebration. Car lovers of all ages come out in full strength to participate in the week long event. Participants can check out row after row of classic cars sitting with their hoods popped open as proud owners wait nearby, ready to brag about their prized possessions.

Outdoor concerts and events take place from beginning to end. Fans of hot rods and classic cars will find show and shines, cruises and even drag races over the course of the event. Those who like to dance can join a sock hop or even attend the Hot August Nights Prom. Other events include poker walks, poker runs, auctions, cruises, raffles and contests.

Each year a new list of classic performers grace the stages all over town. Performers who frequently come to town during the annual event include Herman's Hermits starring Peter Noone, Sony Turner former lead singer of the Platters, Tower of Power, Three Dog Night, America, Mitch Ryder, The Temptations, the Village People, Johnny Rivers, Gary U.S. Bonds, Gary Puckett, The Beach Boys, Tommy James, The Crystals, Davy Jones, Gerry & The Pacemakers and Blood, Sweat & Tears.

Downtown Reno is the host of the mini show-n-shines and nightly cruising (7-10 p.m.). The venue is one of the sites for the Celebrity Choice Show-n-Shines on Aug. 8 and is the route for the finale parade on Aug. 9.

Grand Sierra Resort
2500 East 2nd Street, Reno
Car participant check-in will be held at the Grand Sierra Resort. Also, the Celebrity Choice Show-n-Shine. Free headliner entertainment beginning on Aug. 4.

Peppermill Hotel Casino

Home of the Official Kick-Off Party on Aug. 3. Specialty car displays and Night Life Show-n-Shine Competition also.

Reno Events Center

Home of the Big Boy's Toy Store. Check out over 300 booths featuring the latest in hot rod, street rod and truck accessories. No admission fee.

Reno-Sparks Convention Center

The classic car auction will be held from Aug. 6 - 8 from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. and on Aug. 9 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.. Tickets can be purchased at the gate. For information on placing a car in the auction or becoming a bidder call Silver Auctions (800) 255-4485.

Reno-Sparks Livestock Events Center

Home to the Hot August Nights Swap Meet, Aug. 6 - 8, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the gate.

Silver Legacy Resort &Casino

The Silver Legacy is the host of the Prom and along with the Eldorado Hotel Casino, the Silver Legacy is also a presenter of Big Boys Toy Store.

Victorian Square - Sparks

Home to the Plaza show-n-shine, as well as a craft fair and free headliner entertainment. Along with these events, each night will feature a cruise down Victorian Avenue. The venue will open Aug. 3 with a Street Dance and cruise. Also, the Celebrity Choice Show-n-Shine on Aug. 8.
