Northern Nevada housing data Washoe County Housing: January 2008 By Brian Kaiser, Center for Regional Studies, UNR Our first look at the 2008 housing numbers for Washoe County revealed no change in the downward trend of single family home sales and sales prices -- there were 64% fewer single family home sales in January 2008 compared to a year ago, and the median sales price was 13% lower. Looking for the bottom? We haven’t hit it yet, but as I pointed out last month, the 10% price decrease experienced in 2007 is not that pronounced or dramatic when viewed in light of the tremendous run up in values from 2002-2005. Real estate report from Inman News Fed taking mortgages as collateral in $200B Treasury auction Move could reduce pressure for more rate cuts Copyright 2008, Inman News In a new program intended to ease the credit crunch, the Federal Reserve today announced it will lend $200 billion in Treasury securities to banks and investment firms, allowing them to pledge mortgage-backed securities as collateral. The Fed said the move to provide more liquidity was a reaction to strains on financial markets, and is being made in concert with similar, but smaller, injections of temporary funding through the European Central Bank, the Bank of England, the Swiss National Bank, and the Bank of Canada. The Fed will auction off Treasury securities on a weekly basis, and the dealers who buy them will have 28 days to settle up. The new Treasury auctions are similar to short-term cash loans the Fed began making in December through an auction process. Click here to read the full story...
