The Lake Tahoe Music Festival begins its 2008 season on a high note reuniting with the Reno Philharmonic Orchestra for the Festival’s summer concert series held at various locations throughout North Lake Tahoe, July 19 to Aug. 9, 2008.

The collaboration celebrates the return of the Reno Philharmonic Orchestra to its “summer home” and forges a renewed partnership for planning the Festival’s schedule, programs and soloists.

The Reno Philharmonic Orchestra will play the Festival’s 2008 season-opening concert on Saturday, July 19 at Homewood Mountain Resort along with other Festival concerts continuing through the finalé on Saturday, Aug. 9.

Lake Tahoe Music Festival Maestro Timm Rolek will conduct the summer concerts for the Reno Philharmonic in Reno as well as three of the Orchestra’s concerts at Homewood Mountain Resort, the Festival’s new home venue and future site of a permanent performance amphitheater starting with the 2010 concert season.

Sixty local musicians form the award-winning Reno Philharmonic Orchestra. In recent years the Lake Tahoe Music Festival Orchestra has been assembled with talented players from the Reno Philharmonic, Reno Chamber Orchestra, Nevada Opera Orchestra and the Nevada Festival Ballet Orchestra, with many of the musicians also serving as faculty members at the University of Nevada, Reno or music educators in the region’s public schools.

Long known for presenting the finest classical music at Lake Tahoe, the Lake Tahoe Music Festival annually brings a varied selection of musical performances to North Lake Tahoe including classic jazz, rock and Broadway, as well as popular classical music concerts.

The non-profit organization also has an Educational Outreach Program that presents in-school performances throughout the year at area elementary and high schools, operates a free music lesson and instrument loan program at the Truckee Elementary School and features local, award-winning youth musicians during its summer concert series.
