WarmMist Carefree humidifier recalled by Hunter Fan Company

The Reno Fire Department is warning area residents of potential fire risks associated with the Warm Mist Carefree Humidifier that is being recalled by the Hunter Fan Company of Memphis, Tenn.

The Hunter Fan Company has received at least four reports of incidents involving water leaks including one incident in which water leaked into the unit’s electrical compartment resulting in a fire with minor property damage. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported so far.

The Reno Fire Department recommends residents with the recalled units immediately stop using and unplug the humidifiers, and contact Hunter Fan to receive a free replacement humidifier or refund by calling (877) 288-1145 toll-free, or visiting the firm's Web site at www.hunterfan.com.

The recall is being conducting in conjunction with the U.S. Product Safety Commission and involves about 84,000 Warm Mist CareFree Humidifiers manufactured in China and sold in white and black with blue or green tinted water tanks.

The units were sold at Lowe's, Wal-Mart, discount and hardware stores nationwide, as well as through mail order catalogs and Web-based retailers from September 2005 through February 2007 for between $40 and $65

"Hunter" and "NiteGlo" are printed on the humidifier. Model numbers are listed on a white label on the bottom of the humidifier.
