You know it’s time to celebrate Nevada’s statehood when you see yards decorated for Halloween. The capital city has embraced its spooky birthday by kicking off Nevada Day festivities with thel Kit Carson Ghost Walk. The popular Ghost Walk departs from Third & Carson streets.

The 90-minute guided walking tour covers one west-Carson City mile along the Kit Carson Trail offering glimpses into the city’s historic buildings and Victorian homes and the residents who made history there.

Tour-goers will pass by a variety of local haunts, including a home said to be haunted by a white-haired man resembling Samuel Clemens, who mourns the loss of his niece to spotted fever. Some will pass the Bliss Mansion or hear the tale of the bride ghost at Ferris Mansion or learn the truth about witches at the Stewart-Nye House. Other places visited are The Brewery Art Center's Performance Hall, Edwards House, Brougher Bath Mansion and the Esser and Rinckle mansions.

Tickets can be bought in advance at the visitor's bureau or on the day of the event. Call (775) 687-7410 to order. Arrive about 15 minutes before the tour starts and pick them up at the will-call office. The walk is appropriate for children.
