Sushi 7 leaves food writer hungry for a Thai Royal return

New restaurant needs to be schooled about quality of fresh fish

I’m sorry, but I wasn’t aware that Reno was in need of even more icky sushi. You know, the kind that makes you realize you live nowhere near the ocean. The other day, my friend and I meant to go to Thai Royal, when all of a sudden there was no Thai Royal, and instead, there was a new sushi restaurant. So, we took it as a sign. But a sign of “Beware” is not what I was expecting.

When you first step into the place, you wonder why they even bothered to change the look from what it was before…because it quickly went from tasteful to bland. It’s plain, decorated in black, white, and…black and white, and the seating is very limited…as it should be, considering the quality of the fish.

Sushi is something that should really be taken seriously. After all, if your sushi is bad, so are the next couple days of your life. And when the fish is so tough that it feels like an oversized rubber band is swishing around inside your mouth, the question of, “Why exactly am I eating here?” tends to come up.

Basically, the only good thing I can say about my visit to Sushi 7 is that the waitresses and sushi chefs were total sweethearts. They clearly want their customers to be happy with their fish. But when the “hot Sake” is served colder than hot, and the fish chewier than fresh, things start looking a little bleak. I give this place two years of survival time, at most.
