The National Championship Air Races official relase about Dari's crash called Dari ,"An experienced biplane racer who started his career air racing in 2003 in the Formula One Class. He then moved to the Biplane Class winning top finishes in the Biplane Silver Class in 2004 through 2006. Steve will be remembered for this love of flying and passion for air racing. Witnesses reported Dari experienced what appeared to be engine trouble during and just after takeoff, as smoke and perhaps flames were seen coming out of the plane right before it went down just off the end of the runway. Dari was killed on impact.
The race will continue as planned with a moment of silence observed for Dari.
