What I did on my summer vacation ...

So it's August, and like many of you I'm sure, I can barely believe it. Where does the summer go? It always seemed so long when I was kid; now it just zooms by like everything else at this age. And while it's not over, I thought I'd take a look back at just what I've done this summer ... call it my own personal class report.
Mountain biking. In March I started riding with a group of folks who've been together a few years now. They call themselves the Tuesday Night Ride Group, and each week, we head out to a different ride in the area. We've hit Keystone and Evan's Canyon, the Steamboat Ditch Trail, Galena Creek and all the surrounding trails, Emigrant Gap, Tahoe Rim Trail, Cow Canyon ... and probably others. This is exactly why I moved back to Reno, and I want to thank all the TNRG folks for reminding me how awesome this place is. I've fallen a ludicrous amount of times, come up with cuts, bruises, scrapes and a few knots under my flesh that don't seem to want to go away, but I'm learning a new sport, I'm outdoors with great people in an amazing location ... it's a small price to pay.
Special events. From the River Fest to Artown, Celebrity Golf to Shakespeare Festival, Reno's summer is jam-packed with stuff to do. I've taken in bits and pieces of each, made my lists of what to hit next year and marveled at just what a diverse place this is to live. And we have barely scratched the surface! Coming up soon is the Great Reno Balloon Race, the Nugget Rib Cook-Off, the National Championship Air Races and so many other things. Early fall is on target to be just as busy as summer. I can't wait.
Stayed hot, and dry. A far cry from the last 10 years, my girls and I are getting reacquainted with the dry Nevada summer. I should have bought stock in bottled water and lotion .. that and a sod company. I forgot how hard it is to keep a lawn green in this town! I'll do better next summer!
So what did you guys do this summer? What's still on tap? Talk to me ... my dance card still has a few spaces left on it. Click on the comments link at the left, or e-mail me at the address above. And have a great rest of the summer!
