PGA Tour comes to Reno with the Reno-Tahoe Open

Now in its ninth year, the 2007 Reno-Tahoe Open, scheduled for July 30 – Aug. 5 at Montrêux Golf & Country Club in Reno, is the PGA TOUR’s only summer West Coast stop and features a field of 132 PGA Tour professionals competing for a $3 million purse. As a regular full field stop, the Reno-Tahoe Open is now part of the FedEx Cup schedule, a new competition series for PGA Tour professionals where points are accumulated through the series to determine seeding for the FedExCup playoffs.
The tournament has seen some of the biggest players on the tour with nearly 40 players who have won major championships and many Ryder Cup and President’s Cup players including: Fred Couples, John Daly, Scott McCarron, Sergio Garcia, Mark O’Meara and Nick Faldo. In addition to 16-year-old Tadd Fujikawa, who will make this professional career debut at the Reno-Tahoe Open, and Todd Fisher, playing under the tournament’s unrestricted sponsor exemption, FedEx Cup point leaders and the return of the 2006 tournament champion, Will MacKenzie, will provide for some exciting tournament action.
Tournament highlights
• Birdies For Charity: The Reno Tahoe Open Foundation, a non-profit charitable organization that was established in 1999 for the purpose of generating funds to operate the Reno-Tahoe Open, has developed an innovative way for businesses and individuals to support the Foundation. The new Birdies for RTO Program invites patrons to guess the total number of birdies that will be made during the 2007 tournament and wager a tax-deductible contribution from 10 cents to $10 per birdie for a chance to win a brand new set of Callaway golf clubs. In 2006, the tournament reached 1,707 birdies and over the last eight years it has averaged 1,500 birdies.
• First Tee Youth Paired with tour Professionals: 40 local teens awarded scholarships by The First Tee of Northern Nevada together with the E.L. Cord Foundation will play with PGA Tour professionals in the Reno-Tahoe Open Pro-Am Monday, July 30 at noon.
• Dennis Walters Clinic: On Monday, July 31 at 9 a.m. Dennis Walters, from the acclaimed The Dennis Walters Golf Show demonstrates his golf talents and inspires spectators with his inspirational story. Walters is paralyzed from the waist down and is making his first appearance at the Reno-Tahoe Open. His exhibition includes conventional shots, trick shots and features his trained dog, Benji Hogan.
• Vino 100 Wine Walk: From Thursday, Aug. 2 to Sunday, Aug. 5, spectators can sample fine wines at five different locations throughout the course including the 9th and 18th holes and the driving range. Daily wine walk and tournament admission tickets are available for $35. A Wine Walk season pass is available for $80 and includes a tournament season badge and daily tastings.
• Montrêux Home Tours: Montrêux opens the doors to some of its most incredible model homes as an added attraction from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. daily from Aug. 2 to 5.
