Pub 'N' Sub: Just as our food writer remembers

Food Bites: A blog about Reno’s dining and restaurant scene

If you've ever been a University of Nevada, Reno student, or have ever known one, you’ve probably ended at Pub'N'Sub at least once, and you're probably quite familiar with what they have to offer.

For me, however, it had been a long, long while since I last visited this place, and I thought it was time for a revisit.

The pizza was as good as I remembered - absolutely tasty and a little greasy, as always. However, there are some definite signs that this is a total college place.

Drink refills cost 50 cents. Want some ranch with your pizza? No problem - they'll give you a small, half-filled plastic cup of watered down ranch, which caused my dining companion to exclaim, "Couldn’t they have spared it?"

There were beer-spilling frat guys playing pool, which I normally wouldn't have a problem with, but when sober, I don't find it fitting. In short, yes, Pub 'N Sub is still just as good as I remembered it in the drunken days of Freshman year. But my tastes and atmospheric desires have matured a little since then.

I am afraid I have outgrown Pub'N'Sub, and it makes me sad to say so.
