Bear's Pizza: Bring your Grizzly-sized appetite

Food Bites: A blog about Reno’s dining and restaurant scene

Over near Sparky's is a little pizza place called Bear's Pizza, that never seems to be crowded when I'm there. It's a shame, too, because they have some amazing pizza, a good, intimate atmosphere, and cute, friendly waitresses.

The last time I was there, I ordered a large "Grizzly" (pepperoni, sausage, green peppers, mushrooms, black olives, green olives, bacon and onion) and split it with a friend; like many pizzas with lots of veggies on it, this one was quite moist and difficult to handle until everything actually settled in my tummy. Even so, it was quite tasty and incredibly filling, with two slices more than pleasing each of our bear-like appetites.

All the while, a very friendly waitress occasionally peppered us with random conversation. That was nice, as most places in Reno are like, “Here’s your food, now go.” Just be sure to look to the right once you walk in to see the dining room, otherwise you'll think the place is just a counter. Oddly deceptive, it is.

They also serve plenty of alcohol at Bear’s, like many other local pizza joints. Prices for food are between $10-$25, depending on what you're ordering, and how big your meal is going to be.
