Big Blue 24-hour race returns as Kit Carson Race Aug. 11
Registration open through Aug. 9
Die-hard adventure athletes can conquer the hills of Lake Tahoe and Carson City over a demanding 80-100 mile adventure course Saturday, August 11.
The extreme event, previously known as the Big Blue 24, will require competitors to push their limits with teams finishing the course in 18 to 30 hours.
Required elements include 15-plus miles of kayaking on Lake Tahoe, 45-plus miles of mountain biking with more than 10,000-foot elevation gain on various terrain, ten-plus miles of running and hiking, orienteering tasks and constant navigation and use of map and compass skills.
“The Kit Carson is one of the most challenging events of the entire series,” Todd Jackson, president of Seventh Wave Productions and series producer, said. “It requires an incredible amount of endurance and considerable experience in adventure racing. It also happens to be one of the most beautiful and rewarding courses you can conquer.”
The Kit Carson 24-Hour Adventure Race is open to teams of two, three or four all-male, all-female, coed-or-master-teams, as well as individuals.
Teams can register through August 9, with late fees applying after August 5. Teams entering in multiple Big Blue Adventure Races are eligible for discount registration. Racers can register and find teammates at www.bigblueadventure.com.
The Big Blue Adventure Series, produced and developed by Seventh Wave Productions, has grown in popularity and success since its inception in 2002 and now includes seven competitions, including 24-hour formats, sprint races and an off-road triathlon.
