Club Underground hosts variety of live music
The Reno Scene - Exploring entertainment and nightlife in our fair city
Sarah Cook, reno.com
Club Underground is an awesome place to go to see a live show or discover a new band. Downstairs, they have a huge stage you can see from anywhere on the first level, as well as from the bar upstairs. The sound is great, having probably one of the better bar audio systems in town, the place is huge, and no matter how crowded it gets there, it seems like theres always room to move around.
Known as Renos Premier Nightclub, Club Underground is one of the few bars left in Reno that sometimes hosts all-ages shows. Other than that, theres various live music going on there constantly – always on the weekends, and pretty frequently on weekdays. The types of bands that play there are endless - theres no such thing as typical. You could have an emo rock band hanging out one night, and an '80s hair band jamming the next. Who knows what youll walk in on.
So, what are the downfalls of this place? In short, its mostly just the icky bathrooms (watch where you set your purse), the sticky floors (can anyone hold a drink these days?), and a creepy back alley that might tempt one to return at a later date, well-equipped with mace, but other than that, all is well at Underground.
The bartenders are friendly, the drink selections are seemingly endless and unusual, and the bouncers are fun to shoot the shit with when they arent busy watching out for the bartenders and guests. Its an easy place to forget the time and get lost in the mix of party-land.
As for drink specials and perks, every Wednesday, Club Underground has two-for-one Fat Tires. You cant go wrong there. Theres also extremely cheap Coors Light available for purchase on Thursdays: $1 for ladies, $2 for the guys.
Another cool thing: This club also hosts parties. If you like getting a huge group of people together and want the space and means to do so, Club Underground will assist in making your rager a success.
This bar pretty much caters to a younger crowd, but anyone is welcome, Id imagine. Seriously, whatever shape youre in – bleeding, broken, dirty, spick, span, or out of control – nothing really stands out when youre partying at a place where the crowd is always changing. Ive never actually gone there and seen the same people every time, which is a breath of fresh air for Reno.
