210 North: Is this a good direction for Reno's nightclub scene?

The Reno Scene - Exploring entertainment and nightlife in our fair city

Sarah Cook, reno.com
December 25, 2006

210 North is probably the most expensive club to get into in this city. Charging women a $10 cover to get into a Reno bar seems a little extreme for my taste. It does, however, beat the $20.00 that men are forced to pay. Get there before 10:00pm, however, as they don’t start charging until then. Just make sure that if you do get there before 10, you don’t leave, as heaven forbid you get back in without dumping your bank account on the floor.

Wednesdays are usually a good time to go to 210 North, as the drinks are always half-price, even though most people seem to prefer hitting up this newly constructed party place on the weekends. The dress code is fairly strict, but it makes total sense; don’t wear baseball caps, tennis shoes, wife beaters or any other attire that isn’t up to par with your typical fancy bar.

This place is really big on the whole VIP scene, which is pretty much just a fancy term for friends of the owners/workers, or, friends of the friends of the friends of the owner/workers. There are two VIP rooms at 210 North, one of them which is equipped with two large beds. I’m not sure why there are beds, but I’m not sure I want to know, either. I’ll leave that to the bed crew. Turns out, if you’re part of that aforementioned bed crew, you get “bottle service,” whatever that means. If anyone knows, drop me a line.

Right before this place opened a couple of months ago, my friend Julian and I went down to 210 to see what it was all about, as he was writing an article on the grand opening. Basically, there’s just one thing to say about the interior of this place, and that is, “Hello, fancy. Nice to meet you!” It’s super eclectic and definitely unique, in regards to what Reno’s bar scene has to offer…which isn’t much in the way of “WOW.” The lighting is great, the retro vibe is intoxicating, and, there are two bars always open and ready for action, so being left without a drink is the last thing you’re going to have to worry about.

As for who goes to 210 North, well, whoever has 20 bucks to spare. Rumor on the street has it the goal might just be to draw in more of an elite crowd to 210 North, rather than an unwashed, scrubby crew. So, make sure to pimp yourself out before you go to this place; that way you fit in with the trend and don’t get sent somewhere less “hip.” Also, those of you with fake IDs, stay away; they’ll kick you out immediately. The entire point of having a fancy expensive bar like this is to weed out the youngin’s and draw in a legitimate party people.

There are DJs that mix random dance music for all you hip-hoppers, so, don’t be a wallflower. There’s always someone flinging around to dance with, so don’t feel obligated to have a glued-to-your-side partner. Step out of your everyday box, and take advantage of all those sexy strangers that linger in our city. Who knows, maybe you can even take part in that “bottle service” on a bed with whomever you meet in the wild world of 210 North.

The Reno Scene is an insider’s look at what’s going on around town after dark. Our intrepid night owl will scour the city each week to find out what’s really happening during the wee hours of the morning in the Biggest Little City. Basically, each week, we'll play “Operation” with the heart of Reno - get in, get out, and don't get zapped.

Next week: The Brew Brothers

Last week: Silver Peak
